Yoga with Juliet

Juliet was personally trained by Ana T Forrest (Forrest Yoga) in 2016 and Paula Ahlberg (Yin Yoga) in 2022 and now teaches both styles in community.

Forrest Yoga was created by Ana T Forrest over 30 years ago and constantly develops. This style of yoga specifically addresses physical and emotional challenges brought about by injury, old pain patterns, illness and emotional stress. Forrest yoga connects you to your core and gets you strong – every pose has a reason.

There are four gateways to radiant health: Nutrition, posture, emotion and structure. Posture is classed as a blockage and affects alignment; emotion resides in our tissue which affects our posture - it is energy in motion. Yoga can unwind and reverse this process.

Yin Yoga was officially titled as “Yin” by Sarah Powers after years of study with Paul Grilley in a form of practice he had originally referred to as “Taoist Yoga”.  According to Paul Grilley, there are three “threads” that created the Yin Yoga practice; these are anatomy, the practice and meridian theory.

What can I expect in a Forrest or Yin Yoga Class?

You will be taught to breathe deeply and connect to ‘feeling’ in your body, working each pose in a way which works best for your physical and emotional injuries in a struggle-free way. We will work in an intelligent way using props such as straps, blocks and wedges so that you work at your own level, allowing progression and development in the fullness of time.

A typical Forrest Yoga class uses heat, vigorous workouts and deep breathing to sweat out toxins. The pose holds are longer than other styles of yoga and, with the design of the sequences and deep breathing, you will move deeper into the pose helping you to flush out, oxygenate and refresh every cell.

We start each practice with a teaching theme and intent followed by breathing exercises, poses to warm up, poses to get really warm, poses to warm down and, finally, cool down including Savasana (corpse pose/relaxation). It will change the way you think and feel – using deep breathing helps to keep us conscious, broadens our capacity to deal with stress and changes the body’s ability to manage stress.

A typical Yin Yoga class is a slower and softer-paced style of yoga, incorporating principles of traditional Chinese medicine, with asanas (postures) that are held for longer periods of time than in other styles.  It targets the deep connective tissues, bones, joints, fascia, and ligaments in the body with poses held between 3-5 minutes long.  During this time, there is a deep focus on breathing, release and 'relaxing into the pose'.  This style may use props such as blocks, bolsters, straps and pillows.

Forrest Yoga and Yin Yoga invites you to heal, grow and invite your spirit home.  Scroll to the top of this page for my class schedule.

Some frequently asked questions:

Should I try it?

Absolutely! You have nothing to lose. Do not compare yourself to anybody else – it is your own journey which develops at your own pace in your own time.
What if I’m the wrong shape, size or age for yoga?

Everybody has a ‘body type’ and everybody has different density of connective tissue.  A slim, athletic person may not always be flexible whereas a fuller-framed person, with less density of connective tissue, may be more flexible – it is down to body type and capabilities.  No one person is the same and that is the beauty yoga - it is an individual journey.

What’s different about Forrest Yoga compared to other yoga styles?

Forrest Yoga differs to other styles of yoga for so many reasons – here’s just a few:

• Pose sequencing
• Emphasis on breath
• Poses address injuries/pain and connection to emotions and scarring
• Neck release in poses (no'holding' of the neck), bringing awareness and strength into legs and core
• As a teacher, I have been personally trained by Ana Forrest
• We keep hands and feet active
• We train and teach in a safe, learning environment
• Down and up levelling in poses
• Time to ‘feel’ in poses
• Hands on assist by the teacher to correct alignment and position
• Forrest yoga is inclusive (all ages and abilities)
• Strength building and physically practical
• Empowering practice
• Forrest yoga changes internal chemistry
• Focus on integrity and insists on honesty.
